Unpleasant and impolite staff. Do not even greet you at check in or check out. They try, by every mean, to charge you more. They even do it without your consent.
It's location and you could eat breakfast there in the morning.
The lady running the place was very nice...but the husband had no personality. I found him to be very unfriendly.
The worst front office staff I have ever met, I usually stay in 4-5***** properties, so I know the quality here is not the same, but still. The rooms are dirty and small.
The Mission Inn has the perfect location and rate for someone with a car who wants to be only 10-15 minutes away by freeway from the San Francisco downtown area. The #14 bus right across the street also takes you downtown, as well as the Bart station less than a mile away. My room and bathroom were clean, spacious and exceeded my expectations. There's a small grocery store with fresh fruits and vegetables just half a block away. If hotel parking is a problem late at night, you can always take Whittier St. up the hill and turn left on Bellevue Ave (where the elementary school campus ends). There's always street parking there.
If you return after midnight and have to park a few blocks away, avoid walking alone. A young, strange character followed me into the hotel, all the way around the hotel parking lot, and then attempted to unlock the stairs door behind me which required the room key. Fortunately, I was able to access entrance quickly. During the day, however, the neighborhood appears very safe.
I could park my car by my room and not on the street, which is a treat for the city of San Francisco. The room had a microwave and small refrigerator, which was very nice.
The continental breakfast had very limited choices - cold oatmeal or corn flakes for cereal, small bagels or bread to toast - with butter or peanut butter and jam for choices to put on the bread. There was no fruit or pastries, which is usually part of a 'Continental Breakfast'.
for us, 2 women with a rental car, it was just perfect... parking, wifi and breakfast were included in the price. it is outside of town, but in around 15min you are by car in downtown, we found a parking garage in ellis street for 13US$ a day, during weekdays, so we were just a few min walk away from union square.
Very affordable, clean, and convenient to where I needed to be. It's really a diamond in the rough for those who need accommodations in this area (there were no other places around) and is budget friendly. I took other people's recommendations on good faith and was happy that I did.
Room was clean, everything fine.
Continental breakfast in compare with other motels was quite poor.
Quiet area and nice breakfast.
Good place to stay.
We choose this hotel to save money; needed 2 rooms and didn't want to pay for expensive SF hotel parking. Friendly check in and staff.
Area was a bit rough: saw arrests going on, surrounded by auto repair shops so can be noisy in morning with horns and alarms. Parking lot can fill up if you arrive after 9 - 10 pm. !st night had bad smelling 1st floor room( even though had requested 3rd floor rooms 1 month in advance).Nice staff changed us to 3rd floor which was much newer and larger - didn't notice all the alarm noises from shops nearby or cars leaving in the morning. Breakfast is bare bones, but we knew this. Some surfaces of counters and bedside tables were dirty, showers small, but good hot water flow. Charged us for added person even though they didn't need anything extra except a towel. (Breakfast wouldn't be worth the extra 15$ a day....) Took anywhere from 15 min to 1 hour to get into city.
It was good for the price.
But, the office was closed too early. When my flight got delayed and I tried to contact them, no body picked up the phone. Otherwise, everything else was fine.
We got what we paid for and were generally satisfied with everything. The room had a strong smell of deodorant, but nothing overpowering. It's a good place to stay just outside of the city, but I would recommend having a car to go into the city. The bus stop isn't too far but it seems like it would take quite a while to get there by bus. Continental breakfast includes first come first serve toast, two cereals, milk, juice, coffee, and peanut butter. Only spoke with one person at the hotel and she was nice.
Room smelled pretty strongly of deodorant but nothing unbearable.
Liked the breakfast,if a little cramped in the room, services very good liked the recycling bay. Reception very helpful giving directions for busses, places of interest etc. free parking a big plus,
The accomodation etc, great the surrounding area not the best, a little run down, lots of litter with no sign of a clean up crew anywhere I know that is not your fault, but maybe you could pass on word to the authorities concerned it looked bad from a tourist point of view.
Any concerns I had (because the hotel was very affordable in San Francisco) were quickly laid to rest after being welcomed at the registration desk. The staff is very, very pleasant and friendly and they will make you feel very happy to with your choice to stay the Mission Inn. But there is more. Although the hotel is older (mid-1960's?) it is very well maintained. The room itself was astonishingly nice and very large. I had to wonder if I was in an apartment. And indeed, had there been a kitchen, It would have been. Another huge plus, because this is San Francisco, is they have free parking right on the property. I cannot say enough, but let me tell you this, I extended my stay from one night to three because of both the people and the place. The only drawback, and the probable reason for the great rates is that the MIssion in is in the southern end of the Mission District which places it a few miles from the Civic Center etc.. Yet, nothing is very far in San Francisco which is a small beautiful jewel of 400,000 people. So, for example, the Golden Gate Bridge which is at the north end of S.F., is still only 20-25 minutes from the hotel by car. If you are on a budget, and who isn't, have a great stay at the Mission Inn (no I do not have any interest in the Hotel, just in a great stay)
Gritty neighborhood, crappy "continental breakfast"
